Farm Tasks
There are several critical tasks that happens on our farm at different times in the season that are necessary to stay on top of to ensure we have a large variety of produce to offer our customers at our year round markets.
January-March:
- Prune fruit trees
- Order Seeds
- Plant seed in Hoop houses–radish, spinach, arugula, turnips
- Propagate plant starts in germination house
April-June:
- Thin fruit trees
- Plough, disk ground
- Plant seed–Beets, Melons, Squash, Cucumbers, Beans, Corn
- Put plant starts in ground
- Plant onions and potatoes
- Host school field trips
July-September:
- Continue planting seeds and plant starts
- Summer harvesting apples, peaches, pears, melons and hazelnuts
- Harvest storage crops–onions, potatoes and winter squash
October-December
- Get farm ready for winter dormancy
- Plant cover crop
- Harvest last of the apples
- Harvest and dry popcorn and grinding corn for polenta, grits, cornmeal
- Host school field trips
